The Austin History Center and the Austin History Center Association present the opening reception for the new History Center exhibit, "Relief, Recovery & Progress: The Great Depression and New Deal in Austin." This exhibit will explore 1930s Austin, how the Depression had a lasting impact on our community, and what lessons can be learned as the country grapples with the current economic woes. University of Texas professor H. W. Brands, author of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize finalist Traitor to His Class: The Privileged Life and Radical Presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, will be the featured speaker and place the exhibit in a national context. After the presentation, visitors will have time to explore the exhibit and enjoy light refreshments.
