The Sustainable Urban Environment

"Together we can do great things," Mayor Dellums says. On Wednesday, April 18th, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., in Frank Ogawa Plaza, over 100 dynamic businesses and organizations will showcase their contributions to Oakland’s sustainable urban environment. City staff can mingle with others of Oakland's downtown workforce tasting organic produce, touching green building materials, seeing Bay-friendly landscaping ideas, listening to a "chalk talk" by the City's energy efficency expert, asking questions, making connections, learning about programs and ideas, and discovering opportunities to make a positive difference.

Reward yourself by finding a unique green gift, peeking under the hood of a hybrid vehicle, or (weather permitting), tasting the first organic strawberry of the year.

Tour the event to win prizes. Attendees will receive a "passport," and those who visit an exhibitor representing each of the Expo’s seven theme areas can enter completed passport at the City Pavilion to win prizes. The theme areas are Energy, Waste Reduction, Urban Design, Urban Nature, Transportation, Environmental Health, and Water. (Theme areas are based on the Urban Environmental Accords). So put the Expo on your calendar, and on Wednesday, April 18th, see, touch, taste, ask questions, and take away answers about local sustainability programs and goal. Together, we can do great things.
