The Oakland Choral Society, under the direction of Frederic DeHaven, will present John Rutter's Gloria and Carols along with original compositions by Mike Dempsey.

John Rutter was born in London in 1945. He studied music at Clare College and Cambridge. Rutter composed many carols, anthems and larger choral works. He also edits and arranges traditional carols. Gloria is one of Rutter's most ambitious concert works. There are three movements- allegro vivace, andante, vivace e ritmico. The accompaniment includes brass ensemble with timpani, percussion and organ

Mike Dempsey, a member of the Chorale, is a graduate of Michigan State University Music School. He is founder of his own group "Mike Dempsey & Friends". This is a group of singers who perform composer themed musical shows (Gershwin, Rogers & Hammerstein, etc.) which Mike writes, directs and accompanies on the piano. The group performs around Oakland County and often does fund raising for worthy projects.

The Oakland Choral Society has been an educational and performance chorus since 1963 and has promoted enjoyment and appreciation of choral music as an artistic expression for over four decades.
