21 May is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

The Day provides us with an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to learn to “live together” better. UNESCO continues to promote greater awareness of the crucial relationship between culture and development and the important role of information and communication technologies in this relationship.- extrac from UNESCO Website

Noches de poesía hosts a free multilingual event to celebrate this important day, it consists of 3 sections.

6 p.m. to 7p.m. Round table discussion between various cultural and litterary advocates who engaged initiatives in their communities through arts and culture. Namely, Torontonian Dwayne Morgan, cofounder of Up from the roots Entertainment who gives motivational speaches in schools and uses Spoken Word in an attempt to encourage positive expression of artistic talent with a focus on black youth. He organizes bus trips to educational sites, while offering volunteer opportunities, within the community. Dany Laferrière will speak about the various initiatives organized in Québec to foster dialogue through culture, and Rufo Valencia, will speak about initiatives happening in and with the Spanish speaking communities in Canada.

Multilingual (French, English and some Spanish) links and resumes of the interventions as well as monitoring of the discussions will be conducted by professional conference interpreter, Steven Kaal.

19h30 Free Cocktail served in the Atrium. Food is provided by Resto Plateau, a social reintegration helping Montréal's underpriviliged for more than 15 years, service is offered by many volunteers.

8 p.m. Short introductory Presentation by Steven Mansour, well-known expert on cyberinfrastructure, cyberactivism, Internet privacy policy, and web-based knowledge transfer methods, about internet and the Open Source technologies that facilitate communications between cultures and are made available for cultural and literary advocates, as well as artists and society in general.

A second break, will allow for questions and engaging in discussions.

8:30p.m. Noches de poesía's Multilingual poetry reading and performance by the many poets and artists participating.
