London Groovy & Grails User Group
Gant as Ant and Maven replacement
Time: 8:45 - 9:30
Groovy makes it very easy to create domain specific languages for working on the Java Platform. The idea of a builder is particularly useful for XML file construction (MarkupBuilder, StreamingMarkupBuilder, DOMBuilder), Swing interface construction (SwingBuilder), and scripting Ant tasks (AntBuilder). Gant is some Groovy infrastructure that adds support for easy use of AntBuilder as a replacement for Ant. Using Groovy rather than XML for describing builds using Ant tasks is a huge win. Moreover, there are plans to add to Gant so that it can replace Maven as well!

In this session join Russel Winder, Groovy Committer and look at why Groovy beats XML for specifying builds -- how adding imperative to declarative makes like easier.
