Nikki Jean contributed lyrics and an unforgettable vocal to "Hip Hop Saved My Life," a 2008 smash hit (and successful viral video) from Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, a #1 rap album that peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200. From April through August 2008, Nikki Jean performed on the Glow In The Dark Tour which included Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna and N.E.R.D.

Nikki Jean has been reaching out to her fans through the internet via her MySpace page (where she's enjoyed more than 700,000 profile views) and her YouTube channel, the Nikki Jean Project, which has garnered more than 2.7 million total video views. Since launching her channel, Nikki Jean has been YouTube's Most Viewed Musician of the Day, Most Viewed Musician of the Week, and a Most Viewed Musician of the Month.

Nikki Jean would travel cross-country, working on songs with collaborators who would top any list of the greatest songwriters of all time. The plan was inspired, but also wild and improbable. Who could imagine that a new artist, still in her early 20s, could reach out to a wish list of Hall of Fame songwriters, and that so many would say yes?

What emerged is a compact musical history: the girl group sound, Motown, classic pop, Philly Soul, a place where country literally meets hip-hop. The challenge was to take these diverse influences, this geographical and musical range, and make it flow. ‘PENNIES IN A JAR' accomplishes this beautifully.

"I'm told my lyrics sound like Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, and Elliot Smith, while my instruments spread across a variety of influence from Phis to Queens of the Stone Age, and John Mayer. As much fun as it is to be a singer/songwriter, I still prefer the energy of a crowd who can recognize the songs I play, which is why I enjoy playing a half and half mix of covers and originals at my shows."
