Did you every expect your tired, smelly athletic shoes to one day contribute to the our San Francisco environment? Nike is helping San Francisco breathe new life into unwanted athletic shoes of all brands, and wants your help. Now through May 30, NIKETOWN San Francisco is collecting the Bay Area’s worn-out athletic shoes and turning them into Nike Grind – a radical product used to create high-quality playing surfaces for San Francisco. Instead of tossing old athletic shoes into a landfill, why not protect the environment and our local and maintain our community’s beauty?

Nike has turned more than 19 million pairs of unwanted shoes into playing surfaces, including a Hunter’s Point basketball court and the first tee at Harding Park golf course in San Francisco.

So if you bought new athletic shoes for Sunday's big race through San Francisco, drop off your old pair – any brand – at NIKETOWN San Francisco's Union Square location at 278 Post Street (corner of Stockton), before May 30.

For more information, please contact Channing Barringer at Fleishman-Hillard ([email protected], 415 318 4239). Thanks for contributing to a great cause!

What an awesome cause. Everyone must have old sneakers they don't want. Donate a shoe, help the environment.
