Online video is great, but it’s such a solitary experience. This summer the NewTeeVee team is going to try a little experiment — getting us off our butts and around from behind our screens. Maybe even outdoors.

On a pier overlooking the San Francisco Bay on a summer night, we’re going to project some online video onto a big 16-foot outdoor screen. We’ll provide popcorn, red vines, and beer.

What better way to have a good time watching online videos on a huge 16-foot outdoor screen than with a twist on old favorites? So, we’re announcing the theme for the June 19th Pier Screening…. (drumroll) …parody.

We have opened up a new round of submissions on the dedicated Pier Screenings community site - http://screenings.newteevee.com.

Our idea of what qualifies as parody video is pretty broad — from mashups to fan-made music videos to remakes. Think “Brokeback to the Future,” lip dub, or Angry Alien.

UPDATED! SPEAKERS & PANELISTS
We are thrilled to have a highly qualified speaker and judge lineup for next Tuesday's event.

Gregg Spiridellis , co-founder of JibJab and founding father of viral video, will be our guest interview on the topic of parody.

Spiridellis will grace our judging panel as well, where he promises to play the "Paula" role, claiming to be "probably too nice."

He'll be joined by lawyer Jason Schultz of the Electronic Frontier Foundation -- who will offer not only criticism
but erudite commentary on fair use in parody -- and comedian and video star Heather Gold -- who actually also went to law school, though we pulled her in for her wit.

If you want to join the fun and watch videos along the water in San Francisco,
