171 LOMBARDY
BROOKLYN, New York

Sat, Oct 3: Todd P, Panache Booking, and NYNT present NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN HAPPENING with live music Chain and the Gang, Preacher and the Knife, and Fiasco, all night dancing to DJs Jonathan Toubin and Josh Styles, go go dancing by Anna Copa Cabanna, visuals by Brock of the Mighty Robot A.V. Squad, and plenty of surprises. 10pm – the wee wee hours, 171 LOMBARDY ST @ VARICK AVE (Greenpoint), all ages, $10 ($5 after the bands are over):

For the second time New York Night Train, Panache Booking, and Todd P have banded together for to present the NYC’s latest and greatest multi-media spectacle, NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN HAPPENING! More fun, exciting, and interactive than a rock show! More artful, organic, and interesting than a dance-party! The union of the underground rock, art, dance party, and performance scenes under one roof! Now you no longer have to regret living in the wrong time! Don’t just read about it in history books! Don’t just dream it! Live it – the legendary nightlife experience you’ve always imagined but never realized! A contemporary underground DIY rock and roll take on historical NYC subcultural landmarks such as Andy Warhol’s Exploding Plastic Inevitable but sans the pretention of art events, the high prices of club events, or the restrictive atmosphere or rock shows! The summer happening at Market Hotel, featuring HEALTH, Awesome Color, and Kid Congo Powers, drew in over 600 patrons getting down all night long. This time its located at the new spot Todd P has been gushing about lately, 171 LOMBARDY ST @ VARICK AVE, which he calls “a wonderful, big (but cozy) new space in a dramatic location w/ a beautiful roof patio overlooking the Midtown skyline, the Greenpoint industrial district & the Kosciusko Bridge -PLUS- it’s air conditioned & heated & has a killer soundsystem & good acoustics & great dance floor lights & no neighbors.” Don’t miss this legendary party at this brand new spot! (Night)life does not have to be mediocre!

THE CAST:

- Chain and the Gang is the latest and greatest project of Ian Svenonius – who of course the author of The Psychic Soviet, host of Vice TV’s “Soft Focus,” and most notably, the leader of the groups Make Up, Weird War, and Nation of Ulysses – is now making a new name for himself with audiences worldwide as the leader of this phenomenal new project. As Pitchfork just declared Chain and the Gang’s debut album, “Svenonius’ best overall LP since the Make-Up’s Save Yourself was released a decade ago,” the live show is even more ecstatic, thought provoking, and exciting – proving that Ian is still the finest frontman the indie world has to offer. On the last tour, the NYC show sold out – so get there early girly!

- Preacher and the Knife, whose highly percussive post-punk sound blends bright Afro-rhythms and dark minor-scale harmonies, will give Chain and the Gang a run for their money with their sweaty explosive performance.

- Fiasco has outgrown the tag of “Steve Buscemi’s son’s band” to be widely considered one of the mightiest young bands in New York, or in the country for that matter, on the own merit of their frantic proggy punk instrumentals, mind-blowing musicianship, and untamed live performance.

- DJ Mr. Jonathan Toubin’s trademark 45rpm maximum rock and roll sound, high energy sets, and unique juxtoposition of obscure yet loveable tracks and souled-out parties, haven’t only reconstructed and invigorated the nighttime landscape of New York, but, in recent months, brought New York Night Train’s conductor and his Soul Clap and Dance-Off party everywhere from Mexico City to Jerusalem.

- DJ Josh Styles, the 45 DJ’s DJ and the Stalkers‘ drummer, not only steered his universally adored Smashed! Blocked! party for years, but has proven himself one of the most dynamic and danceable 45rpm freakbeat, garage, soul, glam, and punk DJs there is.

- Anna Copa Cabanna – the sexy Australian showgirl icon who performs her choreography, plays her xylophone, and rollerskates in venues around the world, is equally well-known as the official go go dancer of the New York rock and roll underground.

- Brock of the Mighty Robot AV Squad has been responsible for all kinds of fresh approaches to multimedia visuals – from film and lights to computers and live video (at the Factory-themed Happening he filmed Warhol-esque screen tests of the audience and projected them onto the tin-foiled wall!). So expect mind blowing and innovative visuals

- Finally, as always, you have to come to see what surprise performances are in store. Join us as we continue to change the way things are done in the wormy apple. This is one gonna be a total barnburner, don’t miss it because there won’t be another one for months.

A LITTLE PRESS FOR NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN’S 2009 SUMMER HAPPENINGS:

New York Night Train Happening – this multimedia spectacular is hosted, or rather, conducted, by Jonathan Toubin, the New York City DJ who turns ho-hum rock shows and tin-canned dance parties into transcendent nightlife experiences. Spinning rock and soul on 45, Toubin gets the rock kids to dance and the clubbers to rock, meshing together live music, performance, film and dance, dance, dance.
- Detroit Metro Times (Detroit)

New York Night Train, a group mainly known in the garage and punk world pulled off a very untested amalgamation with HEALTH headlining a night that also included hula hoopers and leopard-print bikini dancers. The crowd started stripping to their skivvies too (who can blame ‘em in the meat-smoking environs of good old Market Hotel), and we’re pretty sure it all worked out.
- Impose Magazine (New York)

All said, the Night Train was one of the funnest events I’ve been to in DC in a while.
- Brightest Young Things (Washington DC)

Next time the Night Train stops by your town, you best jump aboard!
