OUT & ABOUT LTD SUPPORTING AgeUK NATIONAL FALLS AWARENESS WEEK 21ST- 25TH JUNE 2010.
National Falls Awareness Week, 21-25 June, is an initiative of Age UK (the name of the merged Help the Aged and Age Concern Charities). Last year, over 1,000 events took place around the UK, encouraging us all to find out more about things to do to help prevent falls. There are simple things, so obvious we often fail to take account of them: making sure things we could trip over are moved out of the way and that the lighting is good enough for us to see well and we shouldn't forget regular eye tests; our feet are also very important, they need looking after and sensible shoes that don't any longer have to look sensible can really help because the more comfortable our feet are the better support they give us and the better is our balance and then regular exercise.
New for Old - and its FREE. In support of National Falls Awareness Week there's a promotion running all week at Out & About, Alton's new Mobility Centre in Southview Rise, Alton. Balance is really important in the prevention of falls so if you use a walking stick or a cane, you'll know how important it is that you can rely on it not slipping away from you - that rubber foot on the end is critical but it won't work very well if it's worn. Out and About will swap your old one for a brand new one at no cost - just call in at their mobility centre at 25 Southview Rise Alton, any time between 9.00am and 5pm 21st - 25th June.
