The National Invitation Tournament, which started in 1938, is the oldest tournament in college basketball and also was the first national postseason collegiate tournament to be played in the country. It has showcased some of the greatest talents in college basketball and although its role has changed during that time, the NIT continues to play a vital part in collegiate athletics.
