Sarah McLachlan and VSO to Open MusicFest Vancouver

August 5 at the Orpheum Theatre

Her exquisitely soaring voice and emotional songwriting have entranced millions of fans worldwide. She’s sold over 40 million albums, won multiple Grammy and Juno awards. Now MusicFest Vancouver is thrilled to announce that Sarah McLachlan and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra led by Leslie Dala, will open MusicFest Vancouver 2011 on August 5 (8pm) at Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre.

McLachlan’s glittering performance for the Odlum Brown Gala Opening Concert of MusicFest Vancouver 2011, will feature a collection of her classic hits and new favourites, and is her first-ever appearance with the VSO. These songs, specifically chosen by McLachlan, to be orchestrated, spotlight her spectacular career that has spanned over two decades. This will be an unforgettable evening featuring a beloved singer/songwriter with the full grandeur of an award-winning symphony backing her up – all performed in the opulent splendor and comfort of Vancouver’s historic Orpheum Theatre.

MusicFest Vancouver Program Director George Laverock comments: “It’s going to be great to have the VSO back in our festival, and I can’t wait to hear the new arrangements for full symphony of some of Ms. McLachlan’s memorable songs. Guest conductor Leslie Dala is internationally respected for his sensitive collaborations with voices, so it should be an evening to remember for a long time!”
