Augustana Arts presents
 Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra
with Special Guest Artist Yura Lee, violin

The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra, Catherine Sailer, conductor, will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F, Op. 93 and, with Special Guest Artist Yura Lee, Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor and Violin Concerto in E Major on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Ave.  Ms. Lee’s appearance is co-sponsored by Pro Musicis.

Born in South Korea in 1985, Yura Lee has appeared with the major symphony orchestras of United States, Asia and Europe.  She made her Carnegie Hall debut with Leonard Slatkin and the National Symphony Orchestra in 1999/2000.  In 2003 she toured as soloist with the New York Philharmonic and conductor Lorin Maazel, performing in New York City, Cagliari, Italy, and at the Vail Music Festival. In 2006, Lee was selected for the Pro Musicis International Award.  She began her violin studies at age four with Namyoon Kim in Seoul, Korea. Her extraordinary talent was apparent by age five, when she won a top prize at the prestigious Hankook Ilbo Competition in Seoul. Two years later she made her debut with Korea's leading orchestra, the KBS Symphony, and in 1994 came to the U.S. to study at Juilliard with Hyo Kang and the late Dorothy DeLay. Lee now studies with Miriam Fried and Paul Biss and attends the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra, sponsored by the ministry of music at Augustana Lutheran Church of Denver and by Augustana Arts is well known for its performances of baroque and classical masterworks and for its exploration of lesser-known historic and contemporary repertoire.  The musicians of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra bring a variety of training and experience to the ensemble and a wide array of performing experience, gained through their membership and leadership positions in virtually every academic and community orchestra in the Denver Metropolitan area.  (Contact the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra at www.augustanaarts.org)

Catherine Sailer is conductor of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Denver.  In 2005, she was named the winner of Chorus America’s prestigious Robert Shaw Conducting Fellowship.  She has conducted the Dale Warland Singers, Kansas City Chorale, Chicago Symphony Chorus, and the Carnegie Hall Choral Workshop Chorus. Other recent conducting credits include the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, National Opera of China, and the Larimer Chorale and Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra.

She has collaborated with William Warfield and Marilyn Horne, and conductors Victor Yampolsky, Marius Szmolij, Stephen Alltop, David Amram, and Tan Dun.  Catherine Sailer was awarded first place in the ACDA conducting competition in 1999.  She received her Doctor of Music in conducting from Northwestern University where she studied with Robert A. Harris and Mallory Thompson and was awarded the Kenneth G. and Helen C. Merrill scholarship.  Her B.M. and M.M. degrees are in piano performance and choral conducting from the University of Denver.

Pro Musicis was established in France in 1965 to recognize and share the talent of emerging world-class concert artists, whom Pro Musicis presents in concert halls in the United States and abroad.  With each public concert, Pro Musicis artists perform two community service concerts wherever the healing gift of music is needed.  The Pro Musicis experience helps artists transform their talent into a lifetime of music making.
