"No Winds Allowed"
The woodwinds have the night off as Dr. Cindy Lindeen-Martin joins MSCO for a stunning Concerto Romano for organ, strings, brass and percussion, Op. 43 by Italian composer, Alfredo Casella. The brass, strings and organ are featured throughout the program in various combinations, from a lighthearted suite only for brass by British composer Leonard Salzedo, to a mid-20th century chorale realization of a Gregorian Mass tune for organ and brass by French composer Jean Langlais, while the strings get a chance to shine in Danish composer Carl Nielsen's first published composition, a stirring and thoroughly romantic Small Suite for Strings.
The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra, the orchestra-in-residence at Augustana Lutheran Church, is well known for its performances of baroque and classical masterworks and for its exploration of lesser-known historic and contemporary repertoire. The musicians of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra bring a variety of training and experience to the ensemble and a wide array of performing experience.
