A2ethics.org is presenting a madrigal concert and radio drama on the works of the Renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo. The radio drama consists of scenes from Gesualdo's life. This will be interspersed with his songs. The event is called Murder Music because Gesualdo was a murderer. He did not live the ethical life. Our ethics discussion following the event is about the question: Can and should we separate an artist's work, which may be sublime and beautiful, from the life the artist led? In short, what should we say about an artist who does not live the life well-lived, but whose art clearly allows others' lives to be enriched, and perhaps even morally better for it?
