The Kansas City Public Library, in association with Rainy Day Books, welcomes critically acclaimed author Scott Heim in a discussion on Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St. A 6:30 p.m. reception precedes the talk.

Perhaps best known for his novel Mysterious Skin, made into the 2004 film starring Elisabeth Shue and Brady Corbut, Heim will discuss his recently released effort, We Disappear.

Heim, born and raised in Kansas, has penned a dark and compelling book about lost innocence, family responsibility, and the dangers of obsession. Copies of We Disappear will be sold at the event courtesy of Rainy Day Books.

Heim's appearance is the second in a series of Kansas City Public Library events dubbed Murder Ink, featuring a trio of authors widely considered to be among today’s premier murder-mystery writers. The Library hosted three-time New York Times bestseller Christopher Rice earlier in the month as he discussed his latest book, Blind Fall. Pulitzer-Prize finalist Lee Martin will round out the series with an appearance at the Central Library on Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m. to discuss River of Heaven, a haunting page-turner that touches on the mystery surrounding the 1955 death of a boy named Dewey Finn.

All events begin at 7 p.m. with 6:30 p.m. receptions preceding the discussions. Complete the form below or call 816.701.3407 to indicate your interest in attending. Book copies for the authors will be available for sale courtesy of Rainy Day Books.
