Beginning with the haunting tales of Edgar Allan Poe, American mystery writers have produced memorable stories and enduring characters. Although English writers exerted a profound influence on the development of the genre, American writers have made equally important and distinctive contributions to the development of contemporary crime fiction. Writer and historian Dean James will review influential and popular American mystery authors and their works, from Poe to the present.
