Monday July 28th
Awesome Color, Golden Triangle, The Juan McLean, Nicky Siano, Sebastien Tellier @ Santos' Party House

Santos' Party House, Secret Santo: Mr Jonathan Toubin's birthday party: Awesome Color, Golden Triangle, Mighty Robot AV Squad, Anna Copacabana, and many surprise guest DJs. This week's party will function not only as the last of the Secret Santos, but also as the birthday party for Monday house DJ/promoter Mr. Jonathan Toubin. New York Night Train's conductor and soul proprietor has chosen two of his favorite bands in the universe to perform - Awesome Color (who haven't performed locally much this year as the band has for the most part moved back to Michigan) and Brooklyn's Golden Triangle. Mr Toubin will be spinning a bit less than usual – he will be assisted by a constellation of his favorite DJs. The Mighty Robot AV Squad provide the projections and the performance artist/dancer Anna Copacabana brings the go go action. Santos' Party House and New York Night Train have joined forces to create a weekly Monday underground rock'n'roll dance party unlike any the world has ever seen. Check back every week to find the finest DJs and bands in the world performing at our event. Next week our secret is DECLASSIFIED as we celebrate Crypt Records' 25th Anniversary with King Khan & BBQ Show, K-Holes (w/ex-Black Lips), guest DJ Tim Warren (Crypt Records), and more....

AWESOME COLOR has been on the road almost non-stop since the June 2006 release of their eponymous debut album on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace! label– touring the US, UK, and Europe with the likes Dinosaur, Jr., Sonic Youth, and Radio Birdman. In the midst of their grueling live schedule, the Color has also somehow found the time to record their second LP, Electric Aborigines (released April 29 – apparently they already have another on the way).

Branching out in all directions from the Stooges-informed psych-rock of the first LP , the latest has already been met with both stellar reviews (MOJO, Spin, Vice, etc) and, believe it, international radioplay

GOLDEN TRIANGLE, in only one short year together, has rapidly established themselves as one of Williamsburg’s most unique, notorious, and, frankly, best bands. The three guys and three girls of GT (including current and former members of Angry Angles, Viva l’American Death Ray Music, etc.), hit the stage in bizarre dress to put on some of the wildest shows in town. Their sound is a dissonant but oddly tuneful clash of noise experimentation and garage bounce with B-52ish (2 girls and 1 guy) vocal harmonies as the cherry on top. In their short time together they’ve already opened for Black Lips, King Khan and BBQ, Jay Reatard, and were just invited by Quintron and Ms Pussycat to open a 30-day Western tour.

MR JONATHAN TOUBIN blasts all-vinyl rocks for the dancers from the beginning to the end at Santos’ Monday. Soul proprietor of the recently revived New York Night Train record label and publisher of the former popular local underground music website by the same name, this veteran underground musician, writer, and academic quit all of that after rising, in a matter of months, to become the NYC underground’s only full-time professional rock and soul DJ. Though still doing time in subcultural haunts in Williamsburg and the Lower East Side, Mr. Toubin has of late been spreading his gospel all over the city – not only compelling kids dance to music they’ve never heard in the rotten apple with weekly gigs at Santos’ Party House, Home Sweet Home, Beauty Bar, and Motor City, but changing culture coast to coast with more than 150 gigs already this year. This in-demand floor destroyer can be found almost every night hard at work until the wee hours – throwing down dynamic sets with an emphasis on soul, garage, freakbeat, New Orleans beat, early rock, boogaloo, psyche, French pop, British invasion, glam, punk, and the latest local and underground punk/rock 7-inches...

ANNA COPACABANA, whose multimedia Anna Copacabana Show at Bowery Poetry Club has become a downtown tradition, also performs regularly as a songwriting musician and dancer. Uniting the art, rock, and variety scenes with her work across the city, the lovely and talented Ms. Copacabana adds flair and kineticism to any (and every) party...

MIGHTY ROBOT AV SQUAD incorporate homemade visuals, found filmstock, live video, and liquid projection to create an otherworldly yet playful ambience ideal for dancing. Yes, these are indeed the artists of the same Mighty Robot space who also presented all of the great underground bands of the early 2000s and who run the prolific art space in Williamsburg.
