Monad promises to be an evening of fiery and meditative improvisation with two of the foremost musicians of Persian classical music. After many years of collaboration, the legendary and revered Iranian composer, Tar and Setar player, Mastero Hossein Alizadeh again joins the renowned Iranian percussionist and Tombak player, Pejman Hadadi in concert. Featuring the instrument Setar, with the delicate, intricate and rhythms of the Tombak and the frame drum Daf, this concert will feature different and unique passages, all specific to the evening and its "haal" - a term central to the art of improvisation in Persian classical music, which refers to the feeling and spirit of the performers in the moment.

Hossein Alizadeh has been the forefront of musical life in Iran for more than three decades and is one of the most important figures in the world of Persian music today. He has single handily created the contemporary sound of Persian classical music, pushing the boundaries of tradition to step into the arena of world music. As a performer, composer, educator and public spokesperson, he has worked relentlessly to raise the profile of Persian Classical music, both at home and all around the world. His album, Endless Vision was nominated for Best World Music Album of the Year 2006 in the 49th Edition of the Grammy Awards. Previously he was the conductor and soloist in the Iranian National Orchestra for many years. Among his numerous compositions and albums are notable lm scores for the contemporary cinema of Iran.

Pejman Hadadi, is the master of percussive instruments Tombak and Daf. In addition to being a prolific performer, he is also an instructor and founder of Neyreez World Music Institute in Southern California, and is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Durfee Foundation Master Musician Award. Together this concert will feature the world class art of classical Persian music.
