Modern Patronage: De Menil Gifts to American and European Museums June 21, 2007

John and Dominique de Menil possessed an innate belief in art, a philosophy and a manner of collecting, which ultimately culminated in the opening of The Menil Collection in 1987. 'A Modern Patronage: de Menil Gifts to American and European Museums' coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the museum. For the first time, approximately forty-five major works of art that the de Menils donated to museums in Europe and America have been brought together. Demonstrating a truly modern patronage, the de Menils' activities as collectors greatly transcended the works of art currently housed in the museum.
