Catholics@Work is proud to announce Mark Loretta, recently retired Los Angeles Dodgers infielder, is our featured speaker at the breakfast event on December 14, 2010. In the 2004 season Mark batted .335 which earned him a spot on the National League All-Star Team and ranked him third in the National League batting race behind Barry Bonds and Todd Helton. Mark was also voted Padres team MVP in the 2003 and 2004.

Loretta will share stories about his journey including behind the scenes, challenges Catholic athletes face, the role of faith in keeping him anchored at work and at home, and how Catholics athletes work together to reinforce and share their faith.

Not shy about challenges, Loretta has stepped up when needed. In June of 2001, as a third baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers, he took the mound to pitch a scoreless eighth inning against the Cincinnati Reds making him the first everyday player to pitch for the Brewers in ten years.

Loretta's commitment to take challenges head-on is rooted in his belief in living Catholic values. He is a member of Catholic Athletes for Christ which was formed six years ago to support athletes in the practice of their faith and share the Gospel in and through sports. He was also a featured player in the best selling documentary "Champions of Faith."

The secret to success, according to Loretta is being anchored in your faith. Mr. Loretta equates faith with electricity, "You can't see it but you can see the light it creates".
