We are currently planning the 34th annual Miss ACC Teen Pageant. Our current director, Ms. Sarah Simmons, took over the pageant in 1982. Ms. Simmons formed a committee of concerned adults in 1990 to aid in the planning and recruitment of young ladies in the Athens area. These committee members head over 30 different positions that are needed to make the pageant a success. The young ladies range from ages 13 to 18. In the past we have given gifts that contestants could use and enjoy while still in school. This procedure will still be followed.
The overall purpose is to encourage higher standards, to inspire academic pursuit, develop a sense of community responsibility, to develop a good positive attitude, to experience working together with peers and adults for a common purpose while being competitive at the same time. Our mission is to increase self-confidence, values and to demonstrate that a willingness to work hard for what you want out of Because of the increase of youth in the news and a great demand for help and direction. We feel that our program offers a great foundation of values, self-confidence and tools that are necessary to succeed in life. We help contestants see that there are businesses in the community that are aware of the problems and want to make a difference. Although youth are talented and smart, most lack the financial resources to go to college. By putting more emphasis on higher education we can recruit more young ladies and at the same time instill all the qualities for a better and more resourceful future.life is what’s needed to succeed.
