Miramar brings nostalgic love songs to a new generation. They revive the bolero, a traditional Latin American song form, by following in the footsteps of the great Puerto Rican troubadours of the 1950's and 60's. They perform a mix of original and classic tunes drawing upon such great artist as Sylvia Rexach, Felipe 'La Voz' Rodriguez and duo Irizarry de Cordova. A portion of Miramar’Äôs repertoire also includes lesser-known Italian, Portuguese and Greek pieces that emerged from similar international song movements that paralleled the Latin American bolero revolution.

These soulful melodies are passionately interpreted in intricate harmonies by rising star vocalist Laura Ann Singh and veteran Salsa singer Reinaldo Alvarez. They are accompanied by the classic bolero instrumentation of acoustic bass, guitar and assorted hand percussion. The final touch and defining Miramar sound is achieved in the eloquent flourishes of musical director Marlysse Simmons-Argandoˆ±a who alternates between acoustic piano and a haunting B3-like organ.

Alvarez, a gifted lyricist, composer and visual artist, was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico. His passion for the arts and music comes from a strong family lineage of musicians including the illustrious composer Don Juan Morel Campos, who is known as the father of the "Danza Puertorriquena". Along with Simmons, they are distinguished members of the internationally acclaimed Salsa band Bio Ritmo. In the spring of 2009 Alvarez was asked to sing an impromptu duet with vocalist Laura Ann Singh ’Äì a renowned interpreter of Brazilian music, known for her work with Quatro Na Bossa. The result was an unforgettable musical moment that gave birth to Miramar; to remember and revitalize music of a distant lifetime ’Äì long gone, but never forgotten.
