In 2008, Midsumma Festival celebrates its twentieth year with the theme of arrival. As our organisation turns twenty, we take this opportunity to ask ourselves "where have we arrived?", "where have we come from?", "how did we get here?" and "where to from here?". So now we wonder: in today's mostly tolerant, integrated, big city world, what does it mean to celebrate being Queer?

From its humble beginnings 20 years ago as a simple one-week festival, this year's Midsumma Festival, running over 23 days and containing over 185 unique events, forms the most significant showcase of local, national and international queer arts that Melbourne has ever seen.

Jam-packed with performance art, visual arts, cabaret, live bands, literature, film, forums, parties, fashion, community, sporting and family events, there really is something for everyone - no matter who you are, how you identify, what you wear, who you sleep with or who you voted for! We're particularly excited to be launching four new program streams this year: Food and Wine, SummaJazz, SummaKidz and Queer UNIverse.

If that's not enough to keep you busy this Summa, Melbourne will also play host to the 1st Asia Pacific Outgames. We look forward to welcoming the many thousands of athletes, conference delegates, spectators, their families, friends and lovers to our great city.
