Hailed in Canada as a “triple threat” with his piano playing, vocals and sheer charisma, Michael Kaeshammer is a consummate entertainer of virtuosic proportions. Having already made his mark as a piano player, his latest recording, “Kaeshammer,” is a showcase for his sweetly soulful vocals and brilliant, witty songwriting.

Born in Germany, Kaeshammer began piano studies there, and when his family moved to Canada he started playing in clubs almost immediately. He was especially taken with the stride piano playing of early artists like Albert Ammons and Fats Waller, and his early recordings document his pianistic prowess well. He has taken his time developing his singing, and now finds himself being compared to Harry Connick, Jr quite often. Having spent time in New Orleans, the music and atmosphere of The Crescent City is always evident in his original songs.

His recordings have already been nominated for Juno Awards three times, and with his seventh record, Kaeshammer, he seems to be hitting his stride. We will be hearing from young Mr. Kaeshammer for years to come.

“…drawing on a rock solid knowledge of Teddy Wilson, Earl Hines, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller and other early great pianists, Kaeshammer did more than play the way they did. He entertained the way they did.” -Review from his show at Tanglewood
