Michael Banning: Corridor Views April 9, 2009

'Corridor Views: Industrial Landscapes of Minneapolis and Saint Paul,' is an exhibition of new paintings by Michael Banning. With remarkable precision, Banning paints the minute details that escape the attention of most observers: the reflection of power lines in an oxidized mud puddle, or pebbles, rocks and leaves nestled in the corner of sewer grate. These small details are rendered with the care usually lavished on still life objects. By focusing his attention on such details, his landscapes - the usually ignored urban wasteland of abandoned warehouses, power plants and bridge abutments - become transcendent.
