MEDEA BENJAMIN
Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control
Hosted by Laura Prives

The wily, nationally recognized progressive activist Medea Benjamin, cofounder of CODEPINK and Global Exchange, has been accurately described by New York Newsday as “one of America’s most committed – and most effective – fighters for human rights. The Los Angeles Times describes her as “one of the high profile leaders of the peace movement.” She was one of 1000 exemplary women from 140 countries nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of millions of women who do the essential work of peace worldwide. In 2010 Medea received the Martin Luther King, Jr Peace Prize from the Fellowship of Reconciliation. In 2000, she was a Green Party candidate for the California Senate.

Since the 9/11 tragedy, she has been working to stop the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to promote a U.S. foreign policy respectful of human rights. Her work for justice in Israel/Palestine includes taking numerous delegations to Gaza after the 2008 Israeli invasion, organizing the Gaza Freedom March in 2010, participating in Freedom Flotillas, and opposing the policies of AIPAC. In 2011 she was in Tahrir Square during the Egyptian uprising, and in 2012 she was part of a human rights delegation to Bahrain in support of democracy activists when she was tear-gassed, arrested, and deported by the Bahraini government.

“Activist extraordinaire Medea Benjamin has documented how the U.S. government’s use of drones to murder hundreds of innocent victims in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen has increased the danger to our national security. Benjamin’s Drone Warfare is the first book that reveals the vocal international citizen that challenges the legality and morality of America’s extrajudicial execution drones before they begin killing here at home.”
—Ann Wright, U.S. Army colonel (retired) and former deputy chief of mission for
U.S. embassies in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and elsewhere.

“In this remarkably cogent and carefully researched book, Medea Benjamin makes it clear that drones are not just another high-tech military trinket. Drone Warfare sketches out the nightmare possibilities posed by this insane proliferation.”
— Barbara Ehrenreich (author of Nickel and Dimed)

Formerly an economist and nutritionist with the United Nations and the World
Health Organization, Benjamin is the author/editor of eight books. Her articles appear in outlets such as The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, Huffington Post, CommonDreams, Alternet, and OpEd News. She has been an effective social activist for 35 years.
