3. The Nightingale and the Rose (24 min)

Taken from Oscar Wilde's fable, the nightingale knows something about life that the human characters don't. The bird understands the meaning of love and selflessness, while the student and the professors daughter display a modern kind of self absorption. The nightingale, in a noble act of devotion to the young man, gives up her life to produce the red rose he needs to win the girls affection. Unfortunately, the sacrifice goes unrewarded. A pas de Deux (dance of 2) between the Nightingale and the Student is the emotional center of the ballet.

(INTERMISSION)

4. Robert Schumann's "Davidsbündlertänze (42 min)a series of dances for 4 couples.
