In the crowded New York reggae scene, Hasidic reggae musician Matisyahu literally stands out like no other. With his long beard and black hat, this young lyricist, MC and beatboxer is a singular performer whose power, poetry and skills combine the sounds of Bob Marley and Shlomo Carlebach while remaining wholly original. Gomez is one of the few bands in the current crop of English rockers to incorporate bluesy elements into its music. The group's 1998 debut album, 'Bring It On,' earned critical raves and the prestigious Mercury Prize. Gomez's latest CD is 'In Our Gun.'
