On Thursday evening, June 1, the Asian Art Museum will launch MATCHA,
a new monthly evening series that brings culture and the cocktail
hour together in one harmonious union.

Named after the vibrant Japanese powdered green tea renowned for its
robust flavor and blends, MATCHA offers the younger urban crowd an
opportunity to not only decompress but to engage themselves with the
bay area's dynamic arts and cultural landscape--all in a hip and
stimulating environs.

Our kickoff MATCHA has a special South Asian flair. DJ Janaka Selekta
from Dhamaal will spin international rhythms accompanied live on
tabla by Ferhan Qureshi and classical Indian vocalist Sukhawat Ali
Kan. Amrita Chatterjee will tell tales of love in the South Asian
galleries. Guests will also be able to check out our Elephants on
Parade display, which showcases many South Asian works of art.

Every month through November on first Thursday evenings there will be
a different theme and feel, led by a different leading local arts org
or group. The exciting 2006 MATCHA lineup includes Kearny Street
Workshop, Intersection for the Arts, Theatre of Yugen, Kularts, and
more!
