Join Grammy-nominated pianist and Kuumbwa artist-in-residence Murray Low for a FREE interactive workshop and demonstration on "Art of the Rhythm Section" focusing on the Latin Jazz rhythm section featuring David Belove on bass and Paul Van Wageningen on drums. In contrast to the previous session which focused on the Afro-Latin rhythm section in its pure form, this demonstration explores how you can take those concepts and effectively integrate them into a more traditional jazz context. Murray, David and Paul will illustrate many practical ways to authentically infuse the Afro-Latin sound into your jazz band, both collectively and individually. They will also provide many conceptual, interpretive ideas for you to consider as you balance these idioms in your playing. If you are a member of a jazz group looking for new ideas to bring into your already-existing "sound", this master class is for you.

David Belove is a veteran first-call bassist with a mastery in all forms of afro-cuban jazz, salsa, and brazilian jazz. He has had stints in virtually all of the Bay Area's top bands. Paul Van Wageningen's impeccable groove and extremely versatility have led to a multi-faceted career in all forms of straight-ahead jazz, latin & brazilian jazz, funk, and fusion. Murray is a veteran of both the latin jazz and straight-ahead jazz, having recently been nominated for 2008 Latin Jazz Pianist of the year.
