Market Street Gallery Puts Its Money Where its Mouth Is To Promote Local Artists

As local artists vie with national and international artists for exhibition space in the San Francisco art scene, only a few galleries concentrate on showing local artist's work. Among these is Market Street Gallery, which is steadfast in its mission is to foster and promote emerging local artists.

This October, Market Street Gallery will dedicate a full month of exhibition calendar to promote five local artists, including: David Avery, printmaker, Mirto Golino, mixed-media sculpture, Mike Kimball, printmaker, Ron Newman, digital photographer, and Stephen C. Wagner, mixed-media collage artist who are participating in the Artspan San Francisco Open Studios program.

Founded in 1991, ArtSpan, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, builds community by connecting the public to visual arts in San Francisco through the annual San Francisco Open Studios held each October throughout the city. Market Street is pleased to partner with ArtSpan to create a platform for artists to thrive by fostering a Bay Area community that values the arts.

A reception for the artists will be heald on Friday, Oct. 16 from 6-9pm and the artists will also be present on Saturday and Sunday, October 17 & 18, as part of the ArtSpan San Francisco Open Studios event.

Market Street will be open during the second Artspan weekend, the date that includes the neighborhoods of Buena Vista, Diamond Heights, Fort Mason, Haight, Hayes Valley, Marina, Mount Davidson, Pacific Heights, Richmond, Sunset, Ocean Beach, Twin Peaks, and West Portal.
