Join a panel of maritime historians, sailors, shipping professionals and journalists to discuss the city?s rich maritime heritage at one of the nation?s oldest harbor fortifications. Reading and book signing from A Maritime History of New York, a seminal work on the city?s waterfront originally compiled by the New York City unit of the WPA in 1941 and recently reprinted by Going Coastal, Inc. Panel discussion: Moderator: Joseph Bonney, Editor, Journal of Commerce. Panelists: Maria Burks, Commissioner of the National Parks of New York Harbor; Robert McGaughey, Professor of History, Barnard College, Columbia University; Bill Miller, ocean liner expert; Captain James McNamara, President, National Cargo Bureau; Captain Pamela Hepburn, Tug Pegasus; and Captain William Sherwood, retired President of Sandy Hook Pilots.
