Margaret Walsh Best Exhibition- "Balancing Act" March 9, 2013

The theme of this body of work, with its title “Balancing Act”, is Invasive Alien Plants. This term, commonly used by botanists, refers to a grouping of plants which are non-indigenous to an area but have arrived, accidentally or intentionally, and have found the perfect conditions for them to thrive in their new habitats. As they have naturalized, they have brought beauty to our landscapes along with challenges related to biodiversity.
The artist’s study and work on Invasive Alien Plants has been presented in exhibitions in various provinces of Canada, in Ireland and now in the United States. Each exhibition has resulted in paintings of site specific plants, with those of the south eastern United States being added to the current body of work.
