The MSJO is comprised of the Bay Area’s best musicians and is a high powered and innovative group. Marcus Shelby is an award winning composer, arranger, educator and bassist. His credits include original scoring for film, theater and dance as well as jazz composition for his own groups. He is nationally recognized for his innovative and collaborative approach to composing and arranging for text, the visual arts, dance and theater.

MSJO will be joined by one of the Bay Area's most creative female vocal stylists, Faye Carol. With a husky alto voice honed to a remarkable level of intensity, Faye weaves a sumptuous vocal tapestry of gritty blues tunes, jazz standards, and original numbers, using her keen ear for musical invention and an undeniable dramatic flair. She weaves the influences of jazz singers like Billie Holiday and Betty Carter and Blues singers like Bessie Smith into her unique vocal tapestry. She is as comfortable belting out a gritty blues tune as she is in rendering the delicate phrasing of jazz standards. Faye's illustrious career has included a tour with Marvin Gaye, and on-stage collaborations with Ray Charles, Albert King, Charles Brown, Bobby Hutcherson, Ben Vereen, Billy Higgins and Pharaoh Sanders.
