2005, 131 min., 35mm, color. Directed by Isshin Inudo. Written by Aya Watanabe. With Min Tanaka, Joe Odagiri, and Ko Shibasaki. Print courtesy of Asmik Ace Entertainment, Inc. U.S. premiere.

An aging drag queen opens a retirement home for gay men. His young lover schemes to reconcile him with the daughter he abandoned as a child. The film brims with acid-tongued humor and authentic human dilemmas, portraying a marginalized community striving to redefine the nature of family. Tender, yet devoid of sentimentality, the film was an art house hit in Japan. Legendary butoh artist Min Tanaka brings stoic poise to the role of the ex-drag queen.

Tickets: $10/$6 Japan Society members, seniors & students.
