Special panel: Earlier that day from noon to 1:30 pm, the Chicago Cultural Center hosts a panel "Benny Goodman: The First American Idol?" in the Claudia Cassidy Theater. Admission is free and open to the public. Jazz journalist John McDonough raises the question of whether or not Goodman’s role in popularizing jazz helped to create the superstar system in American music.
