Travel back in time to the old world of Japan in the early 1900s, a time of tradition and honor, innocence and devotion, and experience the tragic love story and classic tale of Madama Butterfly - Livermore Valley Opera's production of one of the most beloved operas opening March 12 at the Bankhead Theater.

Opera Weekends: Saturday Opening Night Gala: March 12, 4:30pm at Uncle Yu's at the Vineyard (separate ticket). Curtain 8 pm. Sunday, March 12, 2pm. Matinee and Ice Cream & Opera. Saturday March 19, Pre-opera talk 7pm, curtain 8pm. Sunday March 20, 2pm Matinee and Ice Cream & Opera.

Director Brian Luedloff's approach to creating an authentic turn-of-the-century Japan is infused into every feature of production: music, staging, set design, lighting, costuming and even the singers' individual movements that will transport audiences to old Nagasaki.

Artistic Talents
Music Director Alexander Katzman once again will bring composer Puccini's masterpiece to life. He will lead the sopranos Hennessey and King through their musical performance of the title role in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, known as one of the most difficult roles in the soprano repertoire.

Opening Night Gala, March 12 -Uncle Yu's at the Vineyards
Gala ticket includes dinner at Uncle Yu's at the Vineyard, followed by a dessert reception in the Bankhead Theater. Gala Tickets are $75, and are available through Bankhead Theater box office.

Ice Cream & Opera - Children's Opera Learning Adventure, March 13 and 20
Included in the ticket price is a pre-opera talk one hour prior to curtain. A traditional artist's reception is held in the lobby immediately following each performance. Some performances will feature a public "after party" at a nearby location with complimentary appetizers and a chance to meet the cast and crew.
