Discover the rich history and culture of Ethiopia, the cradle of mankind, in this course complementing and expanding upon the exhibition “Lucy’s Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia” at the Houston Museum of Natural Science beginning August 31. The exhibition features the fossil of Lucy, the celebrated skeletal remains of a female hominid who lived 3.2 million years ago, marking her first foreign exhibition since her discovery in 1974. More than 100 additional artifacts are included in the exhibit, including ancient manuscripts and royal artifacts from a dynasty that Ethiopians believe stretches back to the son of the biblical King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Local and international experts will examine religious and cultural history as well as the invaluable anthropology and artistry of prehistoric to present-day Ethiopia.

Six Tuesdays, September 18-October 23, 2007, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Lectures on September 18 and October 2 will be held on the Rice campus; all others will be held at HMNS.
