1876, the year when Queen Victoria takes over as the Empress of India from the English East India Company and becomes the first dictator of Modern India. 1976, Indira Gandhi introduces Press Censorship as a final nail in the coffin of the Indian Democracy as part of the Emergency.
Lucknow’ 76 is a play based on the lives of common people in the historical city of Lucknow across these 100 years of Indian history. The play looks at the effects that a dictatorship has on common people irrespective of the nationality of the dictator.
