Meanwhile, 15-year-old Svenja (Jella Haase) is rigorously studious, never straying from her path of good behavior. When Marisa sees her convictions shaken after meeting an Afghan refugee, and Svenja realizes her boredom with her listless perfection and becomes enticed by the dark side of adolescence, the two young women find their lives colliding with an alarming urgency. Narrating two personal journeys, David Wnendt's award-winning debut film features astounding performances from both Levshin and Haase, who perfectly embody the quiet, unwieldy despair of idle teens lacking proper role models.
