Life and death, light and dark: Spanish conductor Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos pairs Beethoven's ebullient Eighth Symphony with Falla's gritty tale of a woman wronged. Light on its feet, the Eighth is full of abstract dance gestures, while Falla drew on Spanish traditional song and dance for his two-act opera.
