Bonita
Artwork by Lorenzo Masnah

Online Exhibition Launch: Thursday, July 16, 2009

Fuse Gallery is pleased to announce our second exhibition on Line Gallery, “Bonita,” artwork by Lorenzo Masnah. In this body of work, Masnah criticizes the objectification of women by the media. Influenced by street art, he collages magazine images of 60’s pin ups and “bombs” and “tags” them. Defacing these nostalgic beauties with contemporary graphic imagery allows his work to transcend a specific era. He utilizes outlining, shading and other graffiti techniques to emphasize peculiarities and expressions of the women in these vintage prints.

Lorenzo Masnah hails from Mexico and is currently in New York. Cross-culturalism is a significant part of his work. He explains, “I believe that trash is the carcass of the city. By taking these magazines out of the Mexican streets and using found wood from the streets of New York, I recycle these items and give them new life by turning them into art beyond a specific city.”

“Bonita,” artwork by Lorenzo Masnah launches online Thursday, July 16, 2009, at www.fusegallerynyc.com. For more information, contact Fuse Gallery at 212.777.7988 or [email protected].
