Join archaeologist Douglas W. Jones as he discusses “The Underground Railroad in Central Iowa.” Abolitionist activities, Underground Railroad conductors, and Underground Railroad routes have historically been well-known and documented within central Iowa.

The Iowa Freedom Trail Project seeks to document Underground Railroad activities throughout Iowa by identifying individuals and groups who were involved with these activities and the places where these events occurred in Iowa before and during the Civil War.

Douglas W. Jones, Archaeologist at the State Historic Preservation Office, State Historical Society of Iowa, discusses his work on the Iowa Freedom Trail Project and the preliminary results of the historical research and fieldwork conducted to date.
