About SambaDa

Founded in 1997 by Brazilian native Papiba Godinho, SambaDa has a reputation for seriously danceable grooves with performances that are both intimate and exuberant. SambaDa, representing their hometown Santa Cruz, combines inspiration from samba, capoeira music, funk, reggae and hip-hop and has been featured at San Francisco Carnival, Harmony Festival, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Whole Earth Festival, and the Salem World Beat Festival. Papiba Godhino is the lead vocalist who composes most of the music and also plays guitar, cavaco and percussion. The rest of the band includes Brazilian vocalist, percussionist and dancer Dandha da Hora, the multi-instrumental Anne Stafford (saxophone, flute, clarinet, percussion and vocals), drummer Gary Kehoe, bassist Kevin "Pescador" Dorn, and Marcel Menard, Marcio Peeter, Wagner Santos Profeta and Will Kahn blending beats on percussion.
