NEW OUTDOOR ALL DAY EVENT SHOWCASES ALTERNATIVE TALENT IN THE SOUTH EAST!

A new and welcome youth festival comes to Burgess Park after the much maligned predecessor event Vibrations
Dubbed “THE MIX” run by youth for the youth, the community music and arts festival features an alternative stage area called the LIVE AND UP stage, which promises to include a stellar list of locally based artists showcasing music that takes its influences from as far and wide as the cross cultural community it is being staged in!

Take Yaaabafunk, a 10-piece afrobeat explosion of a band who have been continuously touring and gaining a respected fan base in both the UK and worldwide.
Always flattered to take stage in the locality the group truly represent the vibrant cultures of South East London!

Also headlining is dual Scot and South African heritage Marcina Arnold-powerful vocalist, percussion and guitarist who will not fail to please with her full band ‘The Love Rats’.
This little lady chooses to describe herself as ‘mouthy’, but her music is anything but effortlessly blending jazz, funk, blues, hip hop and latin genres with startingly on point lyrical narrative.
Watch out for her underground hit ‘Blues for Jean Charles Menezes’written in memory of the mistakenly shot Brasilian at Oval Station.

Other artists to watch out for is the impressive young talent of nu soul singer Rasiyah- an artist who already has a discography of released collaborations too many to mention, passionate spoken word from active community workshop mentor, performance poet and radio presenter Lyrical Healer, up and coming beatsmith Sansah, folk funk vocalist and guitarist Madame Pepper and Kwadjofunk, led by multi-instrumentalist Kwadjo ET Amponsem who has worked with an array of artists including Finlay Quaye, Omar, Estelle, Soweto Kinch, Tony Allen and is currently playing bass and bass keys for Roisin Murphy.

Hosting the event is local DJ couple MANVSWIFE who have said of the day “for a long while now, many events in Southwark have been to address understandably serious issues that have affected certain parts of its community. But it’s unfair to suggest that this gun and knife crime is the only thing that young people in the area play a part in. We hope to see families and friends of the community simply come out and enjoy themselves, we get enough negative press of the area so any message apart from having fun is foreign to this event!”

As the event is primarily a youth stage selling of alcohol is prohibited.
Food and refreshments by way of stalls will be available.
