Enjoy the 1936 musical favorite, “Swing Time,” on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 1 p.m. or 7 p.m., located at the Lindo Theatre, 115 S. Chicago Ave. in Freeport. Movie admission is $5 per person and complimentary for those who purchased the series tickets for the recently concluded Film Noir/Hard Boiled Detective Series. This was the second series of classic films shown at the Lindo Theatre in partnership with the Stephenson County Historical Museum and Highland Community College. The next series scheduled for the fall will feature four screwball comedies.

“Swing Time,” starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, tells the story of performer and gambler Lucky Garnett, who arrives late to his wedding. As a punishment, his future father-in-law insists that Garnett raise $25,000 before he can marry his daughter, Margaret. Still in tails, Garnett hops a freighter for New York, where he gets involved in a scrape with dance instructor Penny Carrol. After following her to a dance studio, Lucky poses as a neophyte in need of training. Penny's boss Gordon happens to witness Lucky's incompetence, in the "Pick Yourself Up" number, and is about to fire the young woman for nonperformance when Lucky launches into a dazzling display of terpsichorean skill. Impressed, the studio owner offers to get them an audition at the famed Silver Sandal nightclub.

There will be a brief introduction before the movie and a discussion immediately following led by Dr. Ed Finch, executive director of the Freeport Historical Museum, and Alan Wenzel, the Speech and Communications Instructor at Highland Community College. The Classic Film Series program is designed to offer movie-goers the experience of viewing time-honored American Film classics on the big screen along with the opportunity to discuss various aspects of each film. For tickets and additional information, please call the Lindo Theatre at (815) 233-0413.
