Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company 20th Anniversary Home Season
Friday & Saturday, November 14 & 15, 2008 at 8 PM

Hailed as a modern day alchemist of Eastern and Western dance with a flair for dazzling visual effect, choreographer Lily Cai and the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company celebrate 20 years of innovation in dance this November 14 & 15 with a special anniversary Home Season performance at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater. Cai elegantly blends bold, contemporary techniques with ancient Chinese forms to explore the strength, complexity and inner beauty of the Chinese woman. Her female dancers wield a breathtaking array of props -- from cascades of fabric to flickering candles -- to create provocative and startlingly original portraits of Chinese womanhood. For this special anniversary, the company performs highlights from its critically acclaimed repertoire including excerpts from "Bamboo Girls", "Silk Cascade", "Strings Calligraphy" and "Red Typhoon" and presents the world premiere of a sensual, new piece about female beauty inspired by classical Chinese paintings.
