Leyya Tawils DANCE ELIXIR performs choreography that is grounded in the power, weight, and speed of the human body. Tawils charged, earthy quality and her signature kinetic style earned her a place on the SF Bay Guardian Top 10 Choreographers to Watch in 2006 and many critical accolades. Voice of Dance.com praised the company for being an altogether satisfying experience, a true testament that choreography can communicate through performance, craft, and design.
Leyya Tawils DANCE ELIXIRs spring season highlights the art of solo performance as Leyya Tawil and guest artist Zari Leon of Zari Leon Dance Theater take the stage to present two different perspectives about the concept of HOME. Leyya Tawils solo, Map of the World/Landmine, is a surprising and unusual exploration about her Middle Eastern identity. DANCE ELIXIRS resident composer, Topher Keyes, created a sinuous score and set designer Malinda Trimble framed the work with her environmental landscape.
In the second half of the program guest artist, Zari Leon performs Back 2 Zero. Leon described herself in this piece as a half-Urban Warrior and half Redwood Goddess with music created by DJ Divinity to make our guests feel Mighty Real and celebrate every part Divine.
