Balboa Park
San Diego, California 92103

Hello, and thank you for your interest in the WALK FOR OBAMA in and around Balboa Park this coming Sunday, October 26, 2008! You will not be receiving a personal reply to your inquiry or RSVP at this late date. For those who don’t know what we’re doing yet, over 230 of us (so far) are all PEACEFULLY walking to continue building awareness of the Democratic ticket; to make an impression on the undecided locals and out-of-state tourists; to show solidarity amongst diverse groups; and to attract the coverage of local and national media, if it’s possible. Contacts with the media have already been made and some interest has already been shown. This walk is not a fundraiser.

If you are visiting this site for the first time and want to RSVP now, simply fill out the paperwork, not leaving the name blank. If you don’t want to leave your real name, leave something or it can’t be determined if your RSVP is a duplicate or not!

The walk begins at Noon and ends around 1:00 p.m. or when you’ve tired. Both walking routes begin at the intersection of Park Blvd. and Presidents Way, across the street from Inspiration Point parking lot where the former Naval Hospital was. Please refer to the Balboa Park map available at: http://www.balboapark.org/maps/BalboaParkMap.pdf

Longer route starts by crossing the street legally and carefully at Presidents Way and walking north on the west side of Park Blvd. until you reach the pedestrian bridge by the Rose Garden (38 on map). Either cross over the bridge, if there’s an opportunity to, or walk around grass next to bridge and head west. Walk by the fountain and by the Natural History Museum (16 on map) and continue heading west through El Prado, very carefully past the Museum of Art (on your right, 10 on map) and valet parking area (on your left). Continue past the Museum of Man and the Old Globe Theatre onto and across the Cabrillo Bridge. Using the same route in reverse, return to the pedestrian bridge area by the fountain and Natural History Museum (16 on map) and either continue over the pedestrian bridge, south on Park Blvd. to the Inspiration Point parking area or end at the fountain and enjoy the park.

Shorter route starts by crossing the street legally and carefully at Presidents Way to enter the park (or take the tram to the very next stop at the end of Presidents Way). At the end of Presidents Way, walk north to the Organ Pavilion, then using the same route in reverse return to the Inspiration Point parking area by either walking or using the tram stop at the end of Presidents Way or the tram stop near the restrooms near the Hall of Champions which requires a street crossing west of the Organ Pavilion (19 on map).

Please note; if you are using a handle for a rally sign, the San Diego Police Dept. has told me that a handle much thicker than a yard stick could be misconstrued as something that could be used as a weapon.

You may still be able to purchase a rally sign or other Obama gear from one of these locations: http://www.obamasd.com/offices/ or by calling the S.D. Country Democratic Office at (858) 277-3367.

Be sure to come prepared for a long walk by dressing appropriately and bringing water.

And remember, we are out there to make a great impression, not a negative one by being impolite and/or confrontational with people who don’t agree with us. We must remember to walk on the sidewalks and make room for anyone needing to pass by or get around us. In most areas, the best thing to do is to walk as close to single file as possible. This will make the greatest impression in terms of the visual of “strength in numbers” and will not crowd anyone else trying to walk where we are.

Hope to see you there; this will be a wonderful event!!!
